The Delmonic Interviews
When: Festival Day 2: Thursday, May 8 – 5:00 pm
Where: UC Irvine, CAC Colloquium Room
Show Info:
The Delmonic Interviews, is a ‘tribute documentary’ on Del Close, an improvisational comedian who was the behind-the-scenes mentor of many of today’s -and past comedians. The film was inspired, produced, and directed by two of Del’s former students, Cesar Jaimeand Jeff Pacocha.
The film spawned from a simple, yet sentimental, idea to try to come up with something that could help preserve Del’s legacy after he passed away. With the help of iO Theater (formerlyImprovOlympic) founder, Charna Halpern, what was originally to be a short video montage tribute to Del, turned into an educational, fun filled cross-country journey to the homes and workplaces of Del’s old friends, colleagues, and students, who were more than willing to contribute to this project.
By inspiring and influencing the minds and work of many of our past and current generation of performers, Del Close has left -and continues to leave- his signature on today’s comedic world of entertainment. In The Delmonic Interviews, the directors chose to initiate a project that would attempt to document and show some of those influences.
In speaking to current and past improvisers who have studied and worked with Del, the directors of this film hope to have captured moments and experiences with Del that will shine some light on what Del Close was really like and how committed his life was to the study and crafting of the art form that is Improvisation.
At the same time, by showing how his influence has affected the personal and professional lives of his past students and friends, the directors hope to inspire a whole new generation of improvisers who have not had the opportunity of meeting or working with Del, but wish they had.

LIMITED WALK-UP ADMISSIONS:  A small number of seats will be available for those who were unable to reserve advance tickets online. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. In addition, any unclaimed seats at 10 minutes prior to the event will be reassigned. All available seats will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. *
